My interest in photography came from a combination of two things, modern art and a complete inability to draw or paint.
I've always loved visual art and so i started off working primarily with "conceptual" style photography. Really I think this is my favourite style, but as time has gone by I have just grown to love the capture of images, the capture of beauty and the capture of moments. Photography is just one of those things, I think... the more you do it, the more you love it.
The "raison d'être" of this website is simply so that I can share my images and have an online portfolio for people to enjoy. What is the point of art, after all, if no one can see and enjoy it. So, I hope you do!
At least now when people ask me "so what sort of photos do you take" I can just tell them to visit here!
Austin Tanney was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1975. He quickly matured into a music-loving, computer-coding science whizz kid. After rebelling at school he somehow ended up with a PhD in Biomedical Science...No one is really sure how this happened, least of all himself.
Now for the interesting stuff. Always passionate about music, books and art, he set up a successful underground dance label called Slide Recordings. He produced and released music along with his label partner Richard Fox under the moniker of "Random Method" and also in partnership with fellow Belfast based musician Phil Kieran.
The Slide Recordings legacy remains to this day, but in 2004 Austin retired as label manager and decided to focus instead on visual art, primarily photography. Never one to do anything by halves, Austin promptly became addicted (this incidentally replaced his vinyl addiction) and focused completely on developing his photographic skills.
This site is designed as a showcase for some of his own favourite works.
